Title

Ortho Diaphragm Fitting Rings

Subject

diaphragms, vaginal; contraceptives; pregnancy; birth control; family planning

Description

Diaphragms had to be fitted to determine the correct size for each individual woman. Some women couldn't use the diaphragm due to the position of the cervix or pelvic arch but could use the cervical cap. Oriet began fitting diaphragms at Student Health in 1972 when they started offering contraceptive care. As the Pill became available in lower doses and was more widely prescribed, the use of diaphragms dropped somewhat. For women who were not good candidates for the Pill, the diaphragm remained one of their most reliable options.
